I’m invited to meet and consult at least once a year with a dozen participants in the Transparency and Accountability in Government International Visitor Leadership Program. This includes journalists, diplomats, activists, and non-profit representatives who are actively engaged improving the accountability and open government in their respective countries. In some of these meetings, it’s been a stark reminder of how precious our freedom is in the USA – compared to countries where a person can be imprisoned for circulating a petition that the government finds disagreeable.
In the workshop, I get to share my work and experiences in government transparency, including posting government spending records online for free public inspection and work to reform our Colorado Open Records Act and Government Meeting Sunshine Laws.
